SC Affiliate of the ACNM – April Meeting
We are having our quarterly meeting April 16, 2011 in Charleston. Please save the date! Anne Cason, the Warner-Chilcott rep is planning to sponsor our lunch. The guest speaker will be Kathy Fair,CNM from Boca Raton. She is chapter chair for SE FL chapter! As reservations are necessary please click on the link to RSVP or give your regrets.
If there are any agenda items that you would like to be addressed at the next meeting please forward them to Nichole Wardlaw, CNM – Chapter Chair nchilds169@aol.com
Our fundraising items are being readied for the annual ACNM convention in San Antonio. The Midwifery Market has been expanded this year to cover two days, so we have LOTS of things to sell this year. We hope to make a lot of money for our organization.
TShirts have been ordered – we now have 3 designs for this year, and I cannot wait for you to see them! The medicine cap badge reels are being furiously glued – we’ve made about 400 of them so far, and have sold quite a few along the way also. You all could really help with this process if you will save the caps from medicine vials – we just asked the pharmacy at our hospital to put some in a big bag. Please bring these to the meetings. Somebody else’s trash is our treasure.
We will be sponsoring our chapter chair, Nichole Wardlaw, by funding her registration fee and other expenses for the annual convention up to a total of $1000. The committee tasked with developing guidelines for member monetary awards for CMEs has put together a fabulous set of regulations, which will be debuted at the April meeting. This means that some of you struggling to attend CME sessions may be eligible for chapter monies simply by being a member, attending meetings, and actively participating in our chapter events.
Choosing Midwifery Care Even when a Surgical Birth is Planned

Here is another testimony to the care that midwives can offer women, even when a cesarean is the planned method of birth. Having a baby is so much more than “just the delivery”, and midwives may differ in the type of prenatal care offered. With the cesarean rate at an incredible 32% in this country, most midwives are already caring for women with a prior surgical birth. Again, the experience of the pregnancy, the type of care offered during prenatal visits, and the actual surgery itself can sometimes be quite different when a midwife is involved. So hat’s off to midwives, for all the moms who need them.
